Plant Book
The multimedia installation Plant Book is inspired by the Cruydenboeck ("Herbal Book") of 16th century doctor and botanist Rembert Dodoens. Dodoens arranged plants and flowers according to their physical features, a method of classification that was innovative at the time but is now outdated. Saddie Choua turns the tables and reclaims nature to alleviate pain through classification based on physical features and to regain strength. She reworks Dodoens herbal book into an edition with plants, recipes and all kinds of tips to heal the trauma that racism causes.Through interviews with people of color, reading groups, healing city walks, and therapy sessions, Saddie crafts a tragicomic classification of racist incidents and panaceas to ward off the pain.
